What training techniques does Ray's Canine Services use?
I am certified as a Positive Reinforcement Trainer through the Animal Behavior College, but I like to combine techniques from various training methods. While Positive Reinforcement is my go-to training method, I am aware of, and have experience properly implementing other training techniques as well.
What is the Train While At Work program?
The Train While At Work program involves one-on-one training between your dog and Ray's Canine Services. A Google File Folder will be created where instructional videos will be added, and training notes will be up-dated after every training session. It is imperative that all members of the household watch these videos, and study these notes. Follow-through training is absolutely required!
Do I need to be home or present during training?
It is optimal that all people who live with the dog be present, or at least, involved with the training process. If you enroll in the Train While At Work program, then there will be instructional videos that will need to be viewed by all members of the house.
Why do I have to do any work? I thought I was paying you to train the dog?!
Ray's Canine Services is responsible for identifying problem behaviors, developing Behavior Modification Plans to address problem behaviors, and to guide you, the dog owner, through the Behavior Modification Process. Along with training, Ray's Canine Services is responsible for identifying the most effective training techniques and guide you, the dog owner, on how to properly execute these techniques. Your dog lives with you, and you are responsible for your dog's behavior. It is the responsibility of Ray's Canine Services to ensure that you are using best practices to address behavioral/training issues. In short, Ray's Canine Services does not train your dog, Ray's Canine Services trains you so that you are best prepared to train your dog.
I want my dog to protect me and my family. Is this something you do?
Do you work with aggressive dogs?
Yes. I will need to know the extent of your dogs aggressive behavior prior to our first training session to ensure that I am prepared with Personal Protective Equipment. There is no up-charge for working with aggressive dogs.
Do electric fences make dogs aggressive?
No. Ray's Canine Services is asked this question often, and there is no research that solidifies this claim. Training is extremely important after the installation of an electric fence. You have to train your dogs to properly respond to the fencing system. Should a system be installed, and no training has been completed, then a dog may respond aggressively thereafter. This is at no fault of the fencing system, rather is due to neglect on behalf of the fencing installer, and/or home owner.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Ray's Canine Services accepts cash, check, credit card, or PayPal as forms of payment for services.
Do you do Free Consultations or Evaluations?
Our first training session is exactly that, a training session. The first 5-10 minutes will be treated as "fact-finding," but after that, we will get to work!
